Graphics Card – The part of your computer which processes the information to be displayed on your monitor.
You can find graphics card in two main formats. Namely AGP ( Accelerated Graphics Port) and PCI-E (PCI-Express). These two cards have different types of connectors to slot into your motherboard. i.e. one will fit and the other will not. The Graphics cards today come in very many different variations and range in price from 30-400. Yes, you can guess which one is better cant you? Currently, the ATI Radeon X800 Pro / XT /XT Platinum Edition are reckoned to be the fastest cards today along with Nvidia’s 6800 series, but even these have been super seeded in a couple of months with the arrival of the X850 and X900 range.

These cards are at the cutting edge of the market and truly make and awesome addition to any new (Or old) pc! These cards are amongst the fastest available at the moment. On the left is Nvidia’s Geforce 6800 and on the right is ATI’s X800.

What Should I Buy?

Right now your thinking, well what graphics card do I need? There is no simple answer to this. If you aren’t planning to play games with awesome graphic processing power needs then there is no need to fork out for the top of the range cards. All you need is a cheap graphics card. All of today’s cards give about the same 2D performance with the top of the range cards produced about a 1% improvement. The MAJOR difference is when it come to 3D image rendering, where the ability to display high resolution 3D images is really astonishing when it come to the top of the range graphics cards.

Connectivity

An other consideration when buying a graphics card is what will you be connecting to it? A CRT, LCD Monitor or a TV? you can even get cards with “video in” connections for attaching camcorders or cameras to your PC!
Graphics cards change in price almost daily, so for the latest prices you could visit one of the retailers by clicking on their advertisement.
