Virus Warning: Bebo mail

By Fajja at 31 October, 2008, 6:13 pm

It has come to my attention over the past two days that there are hundreds of people unknowingly spreading viruses through the social networking site “bebo” .

The mails are sent from a trojan(i think) using the on-site mail service.

If you should recieve one of these mails, DO NOT CLICK THE LINK in the message. If you have, you must run an anti virus checker, then change your bebo password as soon as possible to avoid spreading the virus further.

The messages I’m talking about look like:

Although you may get them with different wording and different links, but they are all in the same format, just delete the message!

  1. Run an anti-virus, if you dont have one try AVG;
  2. Change your bebo password once the viruses are gone;
  3. Install a firewall to avoid future attacks.

try and install an antivirus program to get rid of the trojans. if you can’t you could maybe, try using window’s system restore function to a time before you cliked the link. I can’t gaurantee it will work, and you can always restore back to today as long as there is a restore point set. Also, have you tried re-entering the password in your internet connection?

i clicked on the link and my pc kept freezing:(
i tried system restore and it seemed to fix the problem. I have now downloaded AVG FREE edition and its got rid of the virus.

I am glad it worked.
Have you also installed the Firewall for additional protection from future threats? Zonealarm is also free.

im not sure if its gone or not i already have avg
but i still get people saying what is this video?
and stuff what do i do?

Thats fine, as long as you don’t click those links, you wont get the virus. The emails are being sent by people who have the virus. You cant get the virus unless you open one of the links.
Try and update AVG, and run a FULL scan and see if it spots anything.

Hi Fajja,

I wrote an article about it here. For anyone who wants to know a little more about it. http://gtfonoob.net/bebo-mail-virus/

I’ve also described the virus itself and noted a few things that users should do.
