Today really felt like summer was on its way, the sky was clear, not a puff of wind, so I just had to go for a wee dip in the sea. For the first few times I will only stay in the water for a couple of minutes until i get used to it, then I can gradually build it up to longer periods of time and distances.
I have been informed there may be a swimming event on Boxing Day this year, so if I can make it I will come back to take part in it.

My tips for swimming in the sea?
- Only go swimming in the sea if you know the area well, for currents , tides, submerged obstacles, rocks etc.
- Make sure someone knows where you are, and get someone to watch you when your in.
- Wear a wetsuit( I wear a 3mm Gul suit), goggles, and a swimming cap to keep your head warm.
- Don’t stay in long if you are not used to it.
- Never under-estimate the power of the sea. If its rough or windy, or an out going tide, don’t go in.
- Don’t eat before you go in swimming, you may get cramp.
- And don’t panic if you spot something. its probably just a wee fish or bit of seaweed. However do try and avoid the jellyfish
This is not an exhaustive list of precautions and always use your common sense!
